چکیده
Abstract The concept of coastal sediment compartments has recently been adopted at a national scale in Australia to better understand and shoreline dynamics underpin management future behaviour response impacts climate change. Geomorphological studies southern NSW have provided foundation for development conceptual models estuary sandy barrier evolution. Geochronological reconstructions using radiocarbon, optically-stimulated luminescence, other dating techniques, reviewed this paper, demonstrate that adjacent are successive stages. Three compartments, Illawarra, Shoalhaven Moruya, compared, each with different catchment characteristics levels human intervention. Landform change accumulation millennial timescales enable estimates past accretion (vertical accumulation) horizontal displacement shorelines (particularly progradation), as first step towards quantifying volumetric changes morphology. Lake Illawarra is an early stage infill, but land-use change, urbanisation, engineering structures the entrance accelerated rates accumulation. River infilled its delivers sand coast. It subject several conspicuous anthropogenic interventions. At ongoing supply sand, primarily from offshore rather than catchment, resulted beach-ridge plains (strandplains) their alongshore inter-connectivity driven by differential embayment infilling. Variations of Bacterial Community Structure and Composition in Mangrove Sediment at Different Depths in Southeastern Brazil
Tropical mangroves are considered one of the most productive ecosystems of the world, being characterized as nurseries and food sources for fish and other animals. Microorganisms play important roles in these environments, and the study of bacterial communities is of paramount importance for a better comprehension of mangrove dynamics. This study focused on the structure and composition of bact...
متن کاملMicroplastic Distribution at Different Sediment Depths in an Urban Estuary
As plastic production increases, so to do the threats from plastic pollution. Microplastics (defined as plastics <5mm) are a subset of marine debris about which we know less than we do of larger debris items, though they are potentially ubiquitous in the marine environment. To quantify the distribution and change in microplastic densities through time, we sampled sediment cores from an estuary ...
متن کاملAssessment of the Longshore Sediment Transport at Buarcos Beach (west Coast of Portugal) through Different Formulations
This study applies some of the most practical longshore sand transport formulations and evaluates their adequacy to estimate the total (suspended and bed load) longshore sediment transport rate (LSTR) at Buarcos Beach, in the West coast of Portugal. The straightforward methodology here present is simple to apply and therefore useful to quickly obtain a first estimate of the littoral transport i...
متن کاملPopulation dynamics and biological characteristics of kilka species (Pisces: Clupeonidae) in southeastern coast of the Caspian Sea
The aim of the present study was to investigate the age structure, length-weight relationship, sex ratio, sexual maturity stages, growth parameters, natural and fishing mortality coefficients of three species of kilka including common, anchovy and bigeye kilka. The fork length–weight relationship of common, anchovy and bigeye kilka were calculated as W=0.000153 FL2.37, W=0.000349 FL2.18 and W...
